Mill Valley House

Perched at the end of a cul-de-sac this house has surprising glimpses across the bay to San Francisco. The house had been butchered over the years; odd porches and mismatched add-ons; the entire second floor was one room; and very small windows peeking above a dominant porch roof offered zero curb appeal. The homeowners found the house in this ramshackle state, rolled up their sleeves and did much of the remodel work themselves. We reworked the floor plan throughout, extended the house in multiple directions, and removed part of the porch roof to achieve larger, projecting windows. New expanses of glass take in the views and light from all sides. The combined living space spills out to the rear among a series of garden and hangout levels.
