This new home is pulled apart into two sections and set on a ledge carved into a hillside. The living space is separated from the bedroom and bathroom by a wood deck, a setup the owners wanted to be moving between indoor and outdoor many times daily. The spaces are light and airy with a simple, neutral palette. Multiple door connections to the deck that surrounds the buildings: a three-panel door pockets into the wall at the living room onto a sunny south-facing deck; a walk-through shower has a door to the shared deck; two pairs of french doors meet in a corner of the bedroom. Small fireplaces keep the rooms cozy. A The concrete retaining wall anchors the buildings and decks.
